Big Something. Briston Maroney. Devon Gilfillian. The Funk Hunters. There have been many great artists, who have graced those stages, some I've been lucky to meet and interview as part of the media team, which is part of the job I try not to take for granted.

This past week, Bonnaroo announced its lineup, which will take place over four days in September, rather than at the peak of the June summer scorch. This should be incentive enough to go, especially if you've ever endured those hot days, the sunburns, the blisters and how, at some point, the weekend becomes less about relaxation and more like something out of "Lord of The Flies. You have to just accept the discomfort and filth of camping for four days in the middle of summer, and that isn't easy.

You adapt and realize that's just part of the experience, and in return you just might get the best weekend of your life, at least until you come back next year. That's always been the fascinating dynamic of Bonnaroo to me, how on one hand, you're always tired, hot, dirty and just want to go home and take multiple showers.

At least, that's how it is during the day. Once the sun goes down and the temperatures cool, when all the glow lights and festivities really pick up around the farm, that's when you remember why you came, and why you're staying until the end.

Both moves were made in an effort to prevent long lines and waiting times for patrons who are coming from all over the country. In the past, some waited as long as 16 hours to get through the entrance gate and into their campsite.

Even with the new entry dates, patrons are being advised to expect to wait because of the weather. Festival officials posted a note on Bonnaroo's Instagram page Saturday urging fans to plan ahead. Currently all Bonnaroo activities remain as scheduled. Please be prepared for rain, mud, and slower traffic conditions. In normal years, Bonnaroo is held in June, but like a lot of live music events it was canceled in and moved to the fall this year.

It is expected to return to June in Attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test for COVID to attend. The virus is also changing the way many of the performers will attend. In past years, many performers have planned to stay for part or all of the event to see other acts and, in some cases, join them on stage.

Laura Lee of the band Khruangbin said she had planned to stay for the whole festival, but now she and bandmates Donald "DJ" Johnson and Mark Speer will stay on their tour bus before their performance and will leave immediately after it. We are all vaccinated but you can still carry [the virus], so we have to take more precautions.
